Steamy Historical With A Little Intrigue

This is the second book in the Mistress Matchmaker series and it is the first one that I read. It is loosely connected to the first one so can easily read as a stand-alone.

I have an absolute weakness for historical romance and sometimes very passionate ones at that. This one has all the hallmarks of the historical with its beautifully dressed participants, the balls and masquerade, the gentility of the time while on the other hand because this story is about demi-monde of society (mistresses and their gentleman protectors), it is also lusty and openly passionate.

The story is about a woman, Mariah Desmond, who has just lost her protector of three years and he dies leaving her desolate both financially and because she allowed her feelings to enter into their arrangement. Now it is time to find a new protector and her friend Vivian sets out to help her. Vivian invites her to a ball and Mariah comes. She forces herself to put herself out there and several men are interested until her dead lover's best friend wrests her from the room in a confusing fit of temper, drags her into a private parlor, and shocks her with a desire to have her for the night.

John Rystock has been interested in Mariah since the first moment he met her, but his loyalty to his best friend keeps him from ever acting on his desires for the man's mistress. John has a reputation for taking any woman for a night and moving on to the next. He is a good lover so he has plenty who are willing. But on this night when he sees Mariah for the first time since his friend's death, he is angry to see her looking for someone new and he is equally determined to satisfy his lust for her and get her out of his system. She wants to know his intentions and he tells her frankly that he can only give her the night.
When all is done, he does indeed walk away, but he finds that he was affected by being with Mariah and wants her again.

Mariah continues her quest even though she secretly wishes that John would have offered for her. She is surprised beyond all when he finds her again and rescues her from a man that won't take 'no' for an answer. He makes a startling proposition to her. They will conduct an affair where there are no strings attached in that she is welcome to continue her search, but in the mean time they will have each other just for pleasure. Mariah is skeptical of agreeing because she knows that she'll become attached, but wants to be with John so agrees.

Meanwhile, John's past comes knocking on his door to haunt him once more. Things turn dangerous and he should be focused on the danger, but all he can think about is Mariah and protecting his growing feelings for her. But the evil from his past that seeks to break him is observant and zeroes in on Mariah as his weak spot.

This was a very heated read and is obviously erotic, but it is also a sweet romance in a way with the slowly growing relationship from no strings to a deep and sacrificial love. I enjoyed how there was still a nice plot that drove all the passionate scenes and the element of danger pushed up the intensity. I found the villain a bit over the top, but yet his part in the story still worked for me. I really liked the role Vivian played as Mariah's wise friend and as a subtle matchmaker for this pair who really worked well for each other. I loved seeing Mariah's sweet, but lusty nature work as the perfect foil to break through the jaded, unfeeling wall that John tried to put up to protect himself from getting hurt. It's always fun to read about men who aren't as unmoved as they'd like to pretend because it seems that those character types tend to fall the hardest.

It was a satisfying read that I'd recommend to fans of Historical erotica.

Looking for a hot steamy story

Here we are again, and I bring you another book I just finished. Granted this is not my typical reads, but hey you got try other stuff right. Plus, you never know what you will find out there. So, today selection is For Desire Alone by Jess Michaels, which is book two of Mistress Matchmaker series.

Mariah Desmond is on the prowl for a new protector after finding out that her lover left her with pretty much nothing after he passes away. You would think she would get more than what she got, after all she was his mistress for sometime. At last, it was not the case.

Back on the market as you might say, Mariah stumbles upon Owen's best friend John Rycroft. They both have an enjoyable time of pleasure, but John is unable to give more than that. Hurt by John, Mariah continues the search. However, John is unable to stop himself for seeking out more.

So, I have been trying to come up with the right words for today's entry. All that comes to mind is hot steamy sex. The kind that makes you yearn for a cold shower. Granted there is more to story than a hankering for a cold shower. For example, Mariah was never cut out to be a mistress. Somehow she was able to maintain some type innocences in a jaded lifestyle. However, life choices changes the course of direction.

Then you have John who is rich and handsome, and any woman would be glad to hold. Yet he is perfectly content being a one night stand kind of guy, until he has Mariah. Something changes in him when it comes to Mariah. I love that he tries so hard to be honorable and keep his distance from Mariah. Somehow he can't.

Overall, I liked the story. It wasn't the hot steamy sex that did it for me, but the actual story itself. There was so much depth to For Desire Alone and made a good read. So, if you are looking for something a little more heated and a dark brooding hero, you might want to checkout For Desire Alone by Jess Michaels.

Enjoyable steamy historical

For Desire Alone is the second book in Jess Michael's The Mistress Matchmaker series. While linked to the first in the series, An Introduction to Pleasure, it's not absolutely necessary to have read the first in order to be completely swept away by this story. From the moment John sweeps Mariah from the ball, their long-suppressed desire and blazing passion for each other is at the forefront of their every interaction...it's such an enjoyable ride to get a glimpse of the naughty happenings going on behind closed doors in spite of the apparent rigid time period.

I was absolutely thrilled to discover the bigger role Vivien Manning plays in this story...and ecstatic to see that her story will be released on March 5, 2013...Her Perfect Match.

How one coffee shop in Seattle became 20,891 in 62 countries

This is the second book in which Joseph Michelli focuses on lessons to be learned from the Starbucks organization. It should also be noted that the first Starbucks was located in a unique retail environment in Seattle, one that John Yokoyama and Michelli discuss in When Fish Fly: Lessons For Creating a Vital and Energized Workplace from the World Famous Pike Place Fish Market (2004). Whereas the focus in the earlier book, The Starbucks Experience: 5 Principles for Turning Ordinary Into Extraordinary (2006), is on how to create an extraordinary customer experience, the focus in Leading the Starbucks Way is on how managers can establish and then strengthen relationships with customers, products, and associates.

As indicated in both Starbucks books, many of the lessons to be learned from its organization bear striking resemblance to those to be learned from another of Michelli's books, The New Gold Standard: 5 Leadership Principles for Creating a Legendary Customer Experience Courtesy of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company (2008). Both C�sar Ritz and Howard Schultz built organizations based on essentially the same principles, stated somewhat differently:

All great organizations have outstanding leadership at all levels and in all areas. That is certainly true of Starbucks but there was a widely publicized deterioration of structural integrity after Howard Schultz's first tenure as CEO (1987-2000) and before his resumption of CEO duties in 2008. He recounts all this -- sustained periods of meteoric growth, economic downturn, recovery, and transformation -- in Onward: How Starbucks Fought for Its Life without Losing Its Soul (2012).

As is also true of Michelli 's previously published books, he makes skillful use of several reader-friendly devices such as "Reflection on Connection" and "Connecting Points" sections inserted strategically throughout the narrative. He is also the master of bullet-point checklists as well as relevant quotations from primary and secondary sources that illustrate key points. These devices will facilitate, indeed expedite frequent review of material later.

Although Joseph Michelli tends to write about large organizations, he correctly asserts that the most valuable lessons to be learned from them are relevant to almost any other organization, whatever its size and nature may be. How else to explain why one hotel became 81 in 26 countries and how one coffee shop became 20,891 in 62 countries. Those who read this book will be well-prepared to adapt the five principles in ways and to an extent that are most appropriate to the given enterprise.

Enjoyable to Starbuck fans. Helpful for businessmen who strive to thrive on customer services

On page 6, the author claimed that he had taken 500 hours of interviews and researches to build his book and its five leadership principles: 1. Savor and elevate 2. Love to be loved 3. Reach for common ground 4. Mobilize the connection 5. Cherish and challenge you legacy. Honestly, I have little appreciation of the above, but love very much those stories he used to exemplify how leaders at Starbucks strategically and tactically steward its products and people to build customer engagement, loyalty, advocacy and even brand love. The last three pages about "How Starbucks barista Daniel Rowe started his virtual connection with Gini Dietrich by figuring out that Gini might need a little motivation after her husband Kelly Dietrich upsized her Tall Latte to a Grande is really amazing. In short, enjoyable to Starbuck fans and businessmen who strive to thrive on customer services. Recommended!

Not Only about Business

This book is not only a book for people who want to grow or strengthen a business. As I read it, I was reminded me that one of the factors that makes Starbucks such a remarkable company is that they know one important thing about human nature ... we all want someone to know our name and treat us as if we matter. While this book gave me many insights into how to improve my company, it also reminded me that relationships are missing in so many arenas of life. About the Author

Markad V. Kamath, Ph.D. is a professor in the department of Medicine, with associate memberships in the Computing and Software Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He received a B.Eng. from Karnataka Regional Engineering College (now the National Institute of Technology), India, a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras), and a Ph.D. in medical sciences from McMaster University. He is the editor of the journals Critical Reviews in Biomedical Engineering and Critical Reviews in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and the founding editor of Visualization, Image Processing and Computation in Biomedicine. He is a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.

Mari A. Watanabe, M.D., Ph.D., is currently an assistant professor in the cardiology department at St. Louis University. She received her M.D. from Nippon Medical School in Tokyo and Ph.D. in physiology and applied mathematics from Cornell University. She has conducted research in cardiology, mathematics and physics at various institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, University of Utah, and Glasgow University in Scotland. She has received research grants from the American Heart Association, National Institute of Health and British Heart Foundation. She publishes papers in both clinical and basic science journals.

Adrian R.M. Upton, M.D., FRCP(C), FRCP(E), FRCP(G), is a professor of medicine at McMaster University. Dr. Upton qualified as a physician in the United Kingdom and has held a number of senior positions, including the director of the neurology department and director of the Diagnostic Neurophysiology Laboratory at Chedoke-McMaster hospitals, Canada. Fantastic book!

This is a fantastic book, one of the best I've read in ages. It's the story of John Pridmore who was a London gangster. His life was turned upside down after he nearly killed a man outside a bar. Today, he takes the Christian message into schools and prisons. A terriffic and inspiring story. It reminded me of The Cross and the Switchblade.

Fantastic

I had the pleasure of meeting this amazing man when he visited my school. An absoulubtly inspiring story. seeing the man in the flesh, he even looks like you're stereotypical Gangstrer Kingpin. Imagine Bob Hoskins, except alot bigger and more intimidating. He almost killed a man using a knuckle duster in a bar, and that changed his life forever. I highly recommend you get it.

Beginning with what we know of oenology in ancient Egypt and Greece, the text travels up to the 21st century, citing, for example, countries that produced the "most exciting wines" of 2003. Along the way, famed wine writer Johnson revisits the ongoing debate of who is responsible for introducing vineyards into France, reveals that the coupling of bottle and cork in the 17th century allowed wine to age properly and recalls Thomas Jefferson declaring that wine was "the only antidote to the bane of whiskey." Sidebars throughout relate sprightly anecdotes, such as the story of Magellan stocking his ships for the 1519–1521 circumnavigation of the globe (he spent more on sherry than he did on armaments—and then got himself killed en route). Some 125 maps and illustrations in lush color and b&w depict everything from a 5,000-year-old panel that is the first known illustration of wine drinking to a striking photo of a hyper-modernistic winery in Spain. While necessarily less comprehensive than the initial edition, this version is a thorough survey of the elixir that, as Johnson says, owes its popularity to its power to banish care.

Hugh Johnson is recognized as the world's favourite wine writer. Hugh Johnson's first book and internationally bestselling Wine was published in 1966, and subsequent award-winning titles, including Story of Wine and Wine Companion, now in its fifth edition, have established him as one of the subject's foremost writers. How about a little history with that glass of wine...

I have just begun perusing this book. It's really not a tome one reads cover to cover. One goes back and forth. It's really a good reference work if one needs to know a little about the history of wine. Since I write historical fiction, it's a good book to have around. After all, the peoples of history drank lots of the liquid we call wine. It is a ceremonial as well as social drink.

Since one of the stories I tell as a storyteller is about Medea, it was very interesting to learn that the cultivation of wine came from her part of the world, Colchis, which is now Georgia. I think of Medea as a chemist, so I now wonder if this ancient myth's location had anything to do with the cultivation and fermenting of wine. Was it she who took this knowledge to the Mediterranean when she escaped with Jason to that location? We can only speculate. I keep reading this book with each glass of wine I take in the evenings.

Coffee Table Textbook on Wine

This is a classic text on the history of wine, and it is out-of-print! Though required for a college class, it is well written by one of the few people who the subject good enough to get it right. The illustrated edition is worth the extra cost not only for the informational photographs, but also for the history of wine as told through artwork from around the world! Many classic paintings are reproduced in the volume, which makes this book at home on the coffee table not the library!

Many people consider "useless culture" to have knowledge about certain issues. Many would claim: "Why do I have to know about wine?". The answer is very simple, indeed. Wine is part of the culture of a people and more than being a drink it is a form of art.

Considering the wine a form of useful knowledge and a form of art, "The sorty of wine" is a masterpiece on the subject. It is also written in such a way you may feel you are part of the trips Mr. Johnson did in order to come up with this brilliant work. A book for the lovers of this beverage that is more than something to drink, it is a pleasure for the soul.

Writing Spilled Milk was very emotional for me, as you canimagine. I wrote what I needed to get down on paper as fast as Icould,and re-reading each chapter to edit and proofread was painful. As a self-published and first-time author, I know now that the first edition of Spilled Milk was not in its "best form"grammatically, but I alsocouldn't bear to have a professional editor or proofreader make changesto it. It was all still too raw and personal for me.

Severalcolleges and high schools have incorporated the novel into their lessonplans and I've received tons of feedback from my voracious fans- I knew I needed to come out with a more polished and professional edition thatwas appropriate for the education system, my fans, and in general. Thesecond edition of Spilled Milk (2015) has been proofread by twoamazing professionals in the industry and I am proud of the outcome. The story is exactly the same,so anyone with a first edition is not missing out on anything, but I had to accept the fact that "A writer I am, butan editor or proofreader I am not" applied to me in these circumstances. Something In our justice system is just broken especially when it involves children. Let's all take our heads out of the sand and educate on child abuse. This book is a perfect motivator.

Best book I've read this year!

How to accurately rate something so well written? I simply couldn't do it justice. I also couldn't put it down - which is why, after purchasing it last night, I still find myself in my PJ's at 4pm this afternoon. Enough said. Buy the book!
