This house. / And there are stars." In the pages that follow, eight children around the world tell about their homes at night: a houseboat in the Philippines, a mud house in Nepal, a group of round huts in Ghana, a Japanese house, an adobe pueblo, a Mongolian yurt, a skyscraper apartment in Brazil, and a house on the Alaskan tundra. Each child, each culture views the night sky and the stars in a slightly different way, yet as the book's point of view pulls back visually in the last pages, it is clear that earth is home to all, and the roof above our heads is the same sky. Catalanotto's impressionistic watercolor paintings capture each culture's individuality yet maintain the same soft-focus view of the world after darkness falls. Although the scenes take place at night, each is full of light: firelight, starlight, moonlight, city lights, the northern lights, and even the light of glowing silkworms. Somebody forgot to proofread...

I have only looked at about 20 of these cards so far, but there are so many typos on them that I have put them all back in the box and do not intend to trust my studying to them. For instance, ONE SINGLE CARD (Psychiatry Card 4) spells the drug metoclopramide three different ways. Not only did I see several misspellings, but even drug facts were incorrect. I want the cards to help me learn things I don't know, so if I can't trust them to be correct on what I do know, I would be afraid of what errors I would not even realize were there. Save your money and find a more reliable set of flash cards. These cards are advertised as "Fully revised and updated"...I think maybe they should give it another go.

Maybe good for Step 2/3, but not ideal for Step 1

I just got these for step 1 review because they get an "A" rating in the back of First Aid, but I'm disappointed. They include a number of drugs that I've never heard of before (never covered in my med school pharm class, not mentioned in first aid, not tested by the U-World Q-bank) so I'm doubtful that they will be useful on Step 1. They leave out many other drugs included in First Aid. Also, the main focus of most of the cards is the indications for use, rather than mechanism or toxicity. That may make them useful for step 2, but less so for step 1, which wants you to know MOA and toxicity in detail but generally just wants you to know the disease that they treat (rather than what stage of the disease to use them in, and which drugs provide mortality benefit, etc). As other reviewers have mentioned, they have a lot of type-os, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Many drugs have different pertinent information spread between different cards (toxicity on one, MOA on another) and often the information is contradictory. For instance, two different cards mention Carbemazepine, but the 3 toxicities that they list for it are completely different. This makes studying very frustrating!

In short, I may keep these around for step 2 and 3 study, but I think there are probably more appropriate flashcard sets if you are looking to learn pharmacology for step 1.

Not comprehensive! BEWARE!

I got these cards because first aid 2011 graded these cards as A in their recommended book section. If you read the description they gave out then you would get the impression that these cards are "comprehensive" and all that you needed for the boards. WRONG. You absolutely need to supplement these flashcards with another source. I ended up using Lange's pharmacology cards (which was actually comprehensive and not too much for the boards btw).

The content of these flashcards are presented in a very good way. It's clear, concise and clinically oriented. However, there simply isn't enough cards to cover all the drugs. In fact many board relevant drugs of the same class aren't even listed. I would recommend these cards if you have extra time for pharm and have gone through your other cards.

Best DSP book that I have

As others have mentioned, this book covers complex topics in detail, but it still covers the basics (in deep detail). My old DSP books stop at FIR and IIR filtering design, but this book has in depth chapters about multirate DSP, linear prediction, adaptive filtering, and power spectrum estimation. The power spectrum estimation has sections on filter banks, noise correction, and signal classification algorithms.

For anyone with sufficient understanding of mathematics, this book can be used as introductory DSP reading, but I would only recommend this book for someone who has at least had moderate exposure to DSP. It covers the basics in a way that helps you further your understanding, then it goes further into the more complex topics. Most chapters have a healthy balance of charts, graphs and equations, all with reasonably reader-friendly explanations.

The only thing missing is examples in C or C++! Oh well, I guess I can't have it all. I should also note here that this book seems to directly target students (undergrad and grad) more so than professionals. The information is broadly useful though.

I have read many DSP books, this turns out to be the best one. The other good DSP book to mention is the "Understanding Digital Signal Processing" (Lyons) which is written in favor of beginners. The Proakis book not only explains the basic idea as clear as the Lyons's book but it covers deeper materials.

This book is excellent. It contains all the aid I need for the course and even more. All the topics are well explained and contain more than enough practice problems. The book includes a cd with the digital book, which is great if you carry your laptop to school and you dont want to carry more books. The book includes complete chapters for TI procedures which are great if you are new to this type of calculators. This book is perfect for a math studies ib student.
