Q. – So, why should someone read the Lake of Sins series?

Well, because it’s great (smiles). No, seriously. If you’re looking for your typical dystopian, post-apocalyptic, survival thriller then you should look somewhere else. This story has been described as a one of a kind world created in a unique dystopian society.

The characters in the series are human-animal hybrids—genetic mutations or evil experiments, is yet to be revealed. It’s an entire new species of characters who don’t fit in the typical genre categories of vampire, werewolf, witch, fairies or even angels and demons.

The world of the Lake of Sins is segregated by class with the humans ruling supreme. In book one, Escape, Trinity, a sixteen year old Producer (the lowest of the classes), unwittingly sets off a collision between the classes when she flees into the forest to discover the fate of the teenagers who are removed from camp every year after harvest. Some say they are taken to another camp to keep bloodlines strong. Others say they are tortured. No one knows and Trinity is determined to find out, but what she doesn’t expect is to be hunted by mutant horror creatures and predators long thought to be extinct.

The books are fast paced with adventure and mutated creatures around every corner. There are legends that are truth and societal truths that are well guarded lies.

All-in-all, it’s a unique and exciting read and you should give it a try. I think you’ll love it.

The Conguise Chronicles series also takes place in the world of the Lake of Sins. These stories are prequels, explaining how some of the characters, who you meet in the Lake of Sins series, became monsters.

Q. – Who should read the Lake of Sins series?

Although there’s a strong, female lead in Lake of Sins, the audience for both series is broad. I have fans (male and female) aged ten through eighty. Anyone who likes gory thrillers that are dark, a little disturbing and packed with action will enjoy these books. If you like Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings and The Island of Dr. Moreau, then you’ll enjoy these tales.

However, a word of caution is in order. These books are not for the squeamish. Some scenes are bloody and violent almost falling into the horror genre, but the interactions between the characters are funny, poignant and loving (and a love triangle develops as the stories progress). Still, I wouldn’t recommend these books to anyone under thirteen without the parents reading the books first.

The Lake of Sins Series should be read in the following order:
Lake of Sins: Escape (book 1)
Lake of Sins: Secrets In Blood (book 2)
Lake of Sins: Hangman’s Army (book 3)
Lake of Sins: Betrayed (book 4)
I don’t have the titles for the others in the series yet.

The Conguise Chronicles series can be read in any order and they can be read before or after the Lake of Sins Series.

Action Packed Sequel

This was, as the previous book, quite a ride. As before, I loved many things:

– Trinity, our main character is quite likeable. She is honourable, and as Mirra keeps telling her, has too many friends. She keeps wanting to help all creatures, even under the most dangerous circumstances, but she is very mature about it most of the times and therefore tries to think things through, not going into the situations blindly, so her instinct of self-preservation remains most of the time. When she does attempt to rush things, she always seems to have someone around to help her through. So she is innately good and inspires others to be so as well, even during situations where they would naturally act in a different and even opposed manner.

– The different species or classes are something utterly new and remarkable to me in the genre. They never cease to amaze me. I would like to stress out the relationship of Mirra and Gaar; it is truly fascinating. The perfect balance between rational and animalistic features of most of the classes is something that keeps me anchored to Trinity’s world.

– There is a plethora of characters, but they all have their own voice and so it is very easy to follow who is who.

– The world development is superb. I could clearly picture everything and it made sense, though it’s all fantasy. The scenery where action took place ranged from beautiful to scary to disgusting, amongst others, but always able to make you feel like you are there and was, at times, quite overwhelming.

– The narrative is action packed and large sections of it are page turners. You just cannot stop until you know what comes next. On the other hand, there are bits of humour which made me even laugh out loud on a couple of occasions.

– It is a very thought-provoking book. It subtly approaches subjects like vegetarianism (What meat do you eat? Do you know how it is treated before it gets to your plate?) and, less subtly, ones like the struggle between classes, with some thinking they are above others (Almightys view all other classes as their serves and below them in all aspects).

This author has a unique writing style. The book is narrated in the third person, but each chapter focuses on one individual most of the times. Because of that, when the author uses the pronoun he or she, she is actually referring to the character the chapter focuses on most of the times, which can get confusing because it is not always done and because the last person referred is very often not that character. But it really is just a matter of getting used to it.
However, it also means that we don’t really get to know much of what is going on in the minds of those ‘secondary’ characters, which I find a shame, since it would bring an additional dimension to the story, knowing what the others thought and felt about certain situations.

There were a few things that bothered me throughout the book. Since the narrative did grip me, I didn’t take notes, so I will try to remember a few example (please go to https://anaslair.wordpress.com/2015/04/08/lake-of-sins-secrets-in-blood-lake-of-sins-2/ for full review with optional spoilers)

Conclusion:

I wish I could give this book 5 stars. But considering what I mentioned above, it is a solid 3.5 stars for me. I am rounding it up on GoodReads and Amazon solely because I enjoy this world a lot more than other books I rated 3.5 stars, but I did not enjoy it as much as the first one.

Even so, please don’t be misled! It is still an awesome book that DOES deserve your undivided attention because, despite all the flaws, it is a pearl in the universe of dystopian fantasy out there. I can honestly say it is free of most clich�s which riddle other books (I will ignore the love triangle thing because it has a minor presence in the story).

At the end of the day, I am very happy I read it, and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Great sequel to continue this unique dystopian story

Lake Of Sins: Secrets in Blood by LS O’Dea picks up where the first book Lake Of Sins: Escape left off. It continues the captivating story of the main protagonist Trinity and her mission to rescue the Producers and Trackers with the help of Mira and Gar. Trinity is still a very likeable character and remains a strong heroine in this book. It is easy to empathise with the characters in this book because it is so well written and the characters are well rounded and developed and I felt for them when bad things happened.

I found this book to contain a lot more action than the first book and also found it to be generally quicker paced than the first book as well. It is an enthralling story which will draw you in, and with many plot twists it will keep you interested from beginning to end.

After reading both books, I am still thinking about the way humans treat animals and what happens in the meat industry and what it would be like to be vegetarian or vegan. If you’re still wondering why I would be thinking about these topics, you need to read this series to understand why these thoughts would be at the forefront of my mind.

There are more books to come in this series and I will be looking forward to continuing this gripping series. This book is quite a page turner and definitely worth the read if you like dystopian or post-apocalyptic stories and if you enjoyed the first book, Lake Of Sins: Escape.

Although this book I did feel was pretty graphic and disgusting I couldn't put it down

"Lake of Sins Secrets in Blood" by LS O'Dea immediately takes up where "Lake of Sins-Escape" ends and in my opinion is not a stand alone book. Now that Trinity knows what happens to "harvest listers" and she has said her goodbyes to her mother, she has come to terms with living with Gaar and Mirra in the forest and to assist them with freeing the other trackers and handlers. This story introduces several heroic and disturbing characters to our storyline. This book continues with the most disturbing human actions and bands a group of misfits together to fight against them. Although this book I did feel was pretty graphic and disgusting I couldn't put it down. I rate this story a 5 fangs and hope there are more.

Very helpful after accepting reality.

The book was helpful understanding Borderline Personality Disorder in a Biblical perspective.
It is not the book I would recommend to begin your journey of knowing and discovering borderline behavior or people, there are much better books for this. I believe even the authors of this book might agree with these statements. When I read the short editorial reviews describing the book, I think they express the same.
If you are a follower of Christ, after you are relatively sure a Borderline is in your life, it is time to read this book. Doing so will help you understand your role and more important the actions (often lack of action) Christ feels is the best way for you to live in his love.
In my experience following Christ with a Borderline spouse is much easier once you accept your reality. Once that reality is accepted, go to this book.
I was filled with doubt in my self and in my marriage until I knew about Borderline behavior. I suspect Christians living with a borderline will especially understand this statement.
The book was a huge help understanding the adjustments I needed to make in my life to love in and with Christ. God did not want me to live with all the doubt I carried with me each and every day.
If you are shopping for books on Borderline Personality Disorder you have my prayers. The path is not easy, this book will help.

Author is living in la-la land

I have BPD. I am an evangelical Christian. However, let me tell you MY side. In the 25 or so years I've been seeking help for my issues I went primarily to a variety of Christian therapists and psychiatrists to honor God. I've even spoke to a number of pastors. Not only did I often not get much help, but, I either got put down, got kicked out of one therapist's office, was not believed, or, worse, Christians have often turned their back on me and pretended that I didn't exist when I tried to explain what I had or go through. Talk about Christians shooting their own wounded!

Now this author wants me to find a few committed Christians to support me for something that may take years to process. I couldn't find any willing to listen to me without patronizing me, giving me trite answers, or worse. Believe me, I looked. The author naively assumes that if you ask for help with mental health problems, the church would fall all over itself in offering help. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Also, the author expects me to read these Bible verses she offers, and, presto chango, I'm supposed to understand everything they say, believe it, and be ok in a short amount of time and before people give up on me. We'll, I'm sorry, but it just doesn't work like that. It takes a long time to believe there is such love given my experiences with Christians at all levels. Between the childhood sexual and verbal abuse, the lack of answered prayer for relief, and the uncaring attitude I've found with Christians, is it any wonder that I have a real problem with trusting God, and, therefore truly believing what the Bible says? But, obviously in the author's way of thinking, I'm sinning for not unreservedly trusting someone I've been praying to in anguish and, often pleading with tears, for about 50 years to remove this curse from me.

Having said all that, I agree that I sin when I treat others badly. But, what I'm saying is that the author's way of handling the borderline is that of a child that needs to be spanked. There is no mercy, no speaking the truth in love with her. There is no "I know this is hard for you, but..." It is "You are sinning, so stop it!"

I have begun to get better lately due to a variety of things like finding people and therapists here and there that, through their kindness and patience over time and hard work on my part, have begun to make a difference. But, as I am saying, this happened despite the author's prescriptions that lack any sense of grace.

Needless to say, the lack of compassion from this author is exuded throughout this book. I am sinful and, therefore, I deserve no understanding from this author. I certainly would not recommend this book to the person with BPD.

Borderline Personality: A scriptural Perspective

I have read a lot on Borderline Personality Disorder because my son literally had a nervous breakdown after 13 years of marriage to a woman with this disorder. I like this little book because it is simple, straight forward and very accurate in describing borderline
behaviour and actions. It doesnt give exstensive advice but focuses on the one thing that is most effective in treating a borderline--long term commitment by 3 or 4 people who will learn what to do to help the borderline find their way out of the prison of pain, rage, hate, and fear they cannot escape on their own. Borderlines take a lot out of a person so it is brilliant to have a team of people who can work together to ensure that the borderline has the attention and love they need so desparately to combat their feelings of lonliness and distrust. A team can share the responsibility so that no one person gets overwhelmed by the demands on their time/patience/emotions. As a Christian I am glad that the need for Godly love, prayer, scriptural guidance and patience are included in this book as the most vital aids to the recovery of a borderline.

This is truly a great book

I chose this because I love this series and I learned a lot from this book. Before I read this book I knew who Milton Hershey was but now I think of him in a different way. I knew he was a very bright man buy now I known that he was kind hearted and really cared about people. Plus, this book is really well written with great details and I can picture everything in my head

About the Author: Iver Strandberg is a native of G�teborg, Sweden, born in September, 1899. At two years of age, he came to America in his mother's arms, and was brought up in the timber region of northern Wisconsin. His first home in this country was a log cabin. In those surroundings his appreciation grew for the natural beauties of God's creation which later served as the basis for his poetic works. As a youth, Iver read intensely about poets and poetry, and from 1921 to 1955 he wrote some one thousand poems. His poetic vision is spurred on by a firm Bible-based belief that paradise will be an earthwide reality in the near future. It is hoped that the readers of this book will appreciate more than the mechanics of rhyme and meter, but rather will share with Iver Strandberg some truly inspirational experiences and scenes, as well as some occasional light humor.

I really enjoyed the poetry about paradise. We pray the Lord's Prayer and are asking God to establish his government on earth instead of the politics we have today. Looking forward to serving under Christ Jesus.

I read this book when I was a little girl and my mother got me a copy of it thanks to some friends years ago. The poetry in this book is well-written and the way he talks about his faith and hope in a better future is very heartwarming.
