Very confusing

I am lucky that I had such a great professor for my statistics class. Unfortunately, although he's great at teaching the material in class, he doesn't have great acumen in choosing textbooks. This book honestly made me way more confused than I otherwise would have been and is one of the worst textbooks I've ever had. First, the layout jams a lot of formulas without giving you enough specifics on how and when to apply them. Second, the authors have a talent for making straight forward stuff confusing.

Case in point is the section on assumptions about error distributions that need to be satisfied in order to do most regression analysis. Among those assumptions are equal variance and normality. These are not hard to represent in a diagram. Yet the diagram the authors provide shows an example of a case in which some, but not all, of the assumptions are violated. Furthermore, it doesn't say in the caption which ones are violated and which ones are not. In fact, it doesn't even mention in the caption that there are some violations. There's a short line in the text that tells you that. It would have been much clearer to present either a picture of a case in which all assumptions are violated, or one in which no assumptions are violated. And it would have been tremendously helpful to make that clear in the caption. As a caveat, I should mention that I used the second edition instead of the third, so this particular diagram may have been changed. But my classmates who used the third edition despised it as much as I did, so I suspect that many of my comments still apply.

I ended up finding a similar book in the library by Terry Dielman and using that instead. That book covered basically the same material but was far better organized and practical.

It includes Green Berets, bets over catching rats, Christian missionaries --- the Real Warriors, black market and prostitution, the ineptness of the Vietnamese military, the Worst Officer, the Best FAC, Christmas and Easter music recorded and sent back home, heroes and traitors, culture of the native Montagnards, happy homecoming and much more.

About the Author
Lieutenant Colonel Dale Amend is a Colorado farm boy with a degree in General Agriculture from Colorado State University and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He is a US Air Force Command Pilot. As a Bird Dog FAC, (Forward Air Controller), in Vietnam in 1965-66, he flew 423 combat missions in 773 hours of combat flying time. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, 19 Air Medals and other decorations. After Vietnam, he taught Military Training at the US Air Force Academy. He retired from the US Air Force after 24 years of service. He and Nancy, his wife of more than five decades, live in Albuquerque. He loves gardening, golf, chasing grandkids and traveling with Nancy in their modest motor home. All four of their children and their families live nearby. Together, the combined clan comprises a strong family unit. They enjoy frequent family gatherings.

Linda Thompson was born in Washington, D. C., and grew up in the Maryland suburbs. Perhaps this accounts for her love of culture and all things historical. She is an East Coast girl through-and-through, who loves the ocean! To her, there is no more soothing sound than the kiss of the surf as it reaches the sand. Linda's love of reading and particularly the Regency Era began during her long bus commutes in junior high school. During her last year in junior high, she was introduced to what would become her two favorite books: Gone With the Wind and Pride and Prejudice. Her first attempt at writing was a sequel to Gone With the Wind at the age of sixteen. Though writing was always something she enjoyed, Linda's career of choice was that of Administrative Assistance. Oddly enough, she always found a need to create a company newsletter for each of her employers. She currently makes her home in Denton, Texas. She has been married to her husband, Jim, for 27 years and has had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for her three children for the last seventeen years. You will often find her engrossed in a good book--usually JAFF or other historical fiction. She also loves to bake, cook, scrapbook, dance (She was a classically trained ballet dancer for thirteen years.), and travel. Now the joy of writing fills up much of her time. Sorry it is a series, an expensive series, but creative

I enjoyed this book. Unfortunately I didn't notice in the upper part of the information that it is a series. It is not stated in the book summary. I was disappointed when it abruptly came to an end. I would not have paid this much for part of a novel. The reviewer above says it will be 3 parts. If each of them is over $8.00, that is ridiculous. I could purchase almost any hardcover classic/award winning novel for that cost.

Other than it being a series, I found the book creative and well written. Miss Bingley and Wickham are over the top, but that is pretty constant in these books. I have read a lot of these stories and just sort of page ahead when the focus is on those characters.

Sweet but didn't hit the mark

I enjoyed this book but was glad when I got to the end where I found there is another book that goes along with this one. (Oh my!). There's some nice plot lines here, but quite frankly, I prefer my Mr Darcy to have more character layers. He's so sweet and honorable and such a paragon of virtue that I don't know who could stand living with such a man ... he is truly a man without fault ... and so is Lizzy come to think of it. Good read, but certainly not (IMO) one of the better variations.

A sweet love story

To be fair, I must state that this is a serial, so there is a cliffhanger.

This P&P variation starts out 3 wks after Mr Darcy's (senior) death. Mr Darcy (junior) has brought his sister to London to finalize business, and make the unwanted exchange with Mr Wickham. Mr Wickham is more ruthless and conniving in this serial. He is determined to get what he believes he is owed. With that said, he is also the means to bringing ODC to each other's notice that much sooner, even if they still don't meet until the time at the Assembly Ball (canon).

Because of the near meeting, Mr Darcy is left with a very favorable impression and can not forget her melodic laugh. He is more sweet and receptive to Elizabeth that you just have to say "ahhhhhh". He is very protective of her and has none of the arrogance that is his norm, unless he is face to face with Miss Bingley!!!

Elizabeth is so adorable, she is her canon self in essence but is more courageous and just does what feels natural when she assists a young girl in need of help in Hyde Park. When she meets Mr Darcy again at the Assembly, she doesn't have the prejudices like in canon.

Mrs Bennet and Miss Bingley are truly their horrid selves but exacerbated!!! Mrs Bennet is just nasty to Elizabeth and is so blind to the attentions Elizabeth gets from the Darcy siblings, it's unbelievable!! Miss Bingley is ruthless and does not take "no" for an answer, especially when it comes to Mr Darcy. She will stop at nothing to get "her" man.

This first book was well done, though I noted some grammatical errors, but nothing to horrible that you can't decider the meaning of what's being said.

I would recommend the story to all JAFFers, it is an easy and enjoyable read!!

Not quite complete

The book starts out well. It builds a case for Sentiment trading, and gets you thinking about how it actually works. The author says technical indicators are a general waste of time (However the latter half of the book is devoted to technical indicators - which makes no sense to sentiment trading... further more... the charts used are actually missing the indicators it says should be there.. pages 142-145... blank charts). Then it begins to fall apart after that. The author explains how he uses COT but never actually helps you understand the COT report itself (if you decide to look at it on line). Nor does the author explain how to set it up on your own spread sheet if you wanted to do that. How to exit a trade is so inadequate as well. Then the time devoted to "putting it all together" is one page of summary that doesn't actually tell you how to put a trading system together. Basically it means you still have a lot of work to do to put together a sentiment trading system as this book doesn't help in doing that. It seems the author attacked the subject with vigour to start with then just dropped the ball half way through and padded it out with indicators - which he says are worthless in the first half of the book anyway. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 5 as the first half of the book is interesting... the second half you can easily replicate from information on-line and is not relevant to sentiment trading.

Absolutely essential in today's market

As a active FX trader and follower of the methods of Larry Williams Jake Bernstein, I found this book essential to developing a workable, scalable and most importantly...profitable trading plan. Backtested and forward tested...in a word, it works! Solid, straightforward writing, examples and formulas. Recommended highly for the experienced trader; newbies probably won't grasp it. It is not a Holy Grail; the methodology requires a good deal of screen time experience and actual manual trading to calibrate the nuances in both calculations and charting. Slog thru it, you will not be sorry! Thank you Jamie!

Very strong tool to consider in your trade decision making process

I am a long time reader of DailyFX site and find it very useful.
One tool that caught my attention some time ago was the COT report column, write by Jamie Saettele.
The book goes further in explain the COT report itself, how to generate indicators from COT data, how to interpret it and, finally, how to use it as a tool to help trigger trades.
Well explained, with plenty of charts, it also has an introduction to Elliot Wave theory, largely used by the author in his tracking of markets.
I recommend the book because of it introduces this subject in a very straight forward way, easy to understand and apply immediately in your trading routine.
