The areas of hottest controversy, such as mass extinctions, dinosaur endothermy, the origin of life, and controversies over late Proterozoic tectonics and glaciation, have been given separate sections so that students can appreciate the different sides of the debates.

excellent for general reference for beginner into paleobiology and historic earth ecology, with good emphasis as to physical geology has on biological components. Very well written and provides key point of each chapter.

Good overview of historical geology

The eighth edition of "Evolution of the Earth" is an excellent summary of earth history, with few typos. The book should include a higher proportion of more current illustrations and diagrams; too many of them are pre-1980's.
